Yes. Under the Programme québécois de gestion des pneus hors d’usage (Quebec’s used tire management program), an ecofee is collected upon the purchase of new tires, which funds the province-wide recovery system. For this reason, tires are collected free of charge at the Vaudreuil-Soulanges ecocentre network and at participating drop-off points. Once recovered, they are broken down into several valuable materials. The rubber powder is used in the automotive industry, as well as in the manufacturing of button covers and caps. The polyester fibres extracted from the tires are transformed into plastic bins, folding chairs, and flower pots. The steel recovered from the tire frames is used to create construction reinforcement, tubes, and various construction parts.
